Show and Tell Postcards, spoons, old photograph and a pincushion

Show and Tell....actually just sharing a few pictures of postcards, utensils and other items that are sitting out on my tables!  Just random thinking.  Actually this is what is on my cluttered table.

These Italian Postcards are very old and in poor condition.  I thought they would be great in collage work

Sterling Silver spoons.  I hear since silver is going up and spoons are being melted down.  These are not in great condition.  I wonder if they are worth anything?

I wish old photographs were identified.  Who are they?

I get a lot of creative ideas from old magazines like Woman's World

My pincushion.

April Showers Means May Flowers "I hope" PFF German Book

Happy Spring Days!  I am sharing a book cover with a lovely illustration on the front.  Maybe the girl is gathering Easter eggs with her basket.  But again she appears to be in a Church Yard since their is a cross, maybe a cemetary since there is a wreath.  I don't read German.  The book has about 4 other lovely illustrations but they are hard to scan.  The inside of book is signed 1897.
 Happy PFF over at Beths

Sugar Beet Factory near Santa Ana California Vintage Postcard

SUGAR FACTORY IN SANTA ANA : How Sweet It Was

ORANGE COUNTY CALENDAR: ARTS, ENTERTAINMENT, LEISURE | Then
and Now

October 31, 1999|STEVE EMMONS
James Irvine, the Orange County mega-rancher, didn't like the price he was getting for his sugar beets, so in 1911 he formed a co-op and built his own sugar factory just outside Santa Ana.
It was the Southern California Sugar Co., a three-story brick edifice designed and built by Dyer Co. of Cincinnati.
The factory became such a notable Santa Ana landmark that picture postcards, above, were printed, sold and proudly mailed to relatives back East

Vintage Postcard Branding Calves Out West

I chose this postcard because I have been to a branding.  I went to my first one while I was teaching in a 2 room schoolhouse in Central California in the 1970's.  I was an interesting and fun experience.  I love the detail in this linen postcard from 1950.  Could just be about anywhere in the west.
Just listed on My eBay  Bid now

Late Thursday Night

I am just sitting here at almost 11 o'clock at night.  Sometimes I just can't think of too much to write about.  I had a pretty good day.  It started out with sewing class at the senior center where I am working on an apron.  Now I am not a good sewer so I had to purchase a panel type kit where the pattern is all stamped on the background fabric.  I managed to get the flounce attached to the body of the apron and tomorrow I will add the neck and waist ties.

Since I took a nap I don't feel like going to bed yet and already have read on my kindle so I think I will make some appliques.  I will iron some Pellon Wonder-under and iron to the back of some colorful printed fabrics.  Then I will cut out some of the designs and they will be ready for future projects.  Let me see if I can end this with a nice postcard.

Vintage Cabinet Card, 2 men posing but what does he have in his hand?

Look carefully at this cabinet card, study the details then read my comments below the photo.
First, it looks like these two men are posing in a church by looking at the stained glass window behind them.  The young man at the left is wearing a boutinerre of some sort.  Maybe he is the groom at a wedding.  It's the guy on the right that intrigues me.  He also has a flower pinned to his vest, even a tie.  I wonder why the apron or piece of cloth around his waist.  Is he ready to serve something?  I have looked at this photo many times but last night I noticed that he is holding a bottled drink in his hand.  It almost looks like a bottle of beer.
This is why I like postcards and other ephemera.  Always a mystery to be solved.  What do you think?

My Flea Market Finds

We went to the second annual Radio Tradeo Garage Sale at the Madera Calif Fairgrounds sponsored by KMJ Radio Station Fresno.  I did not find any postcards but some nice embroidery transfer sheets and some handmade embroidered items.
I found a bag of goodies which had embroidery thread and I could see a pattern transfer sheet or two.  These lovely Carousel horses are from an Aunt Martha's Hot Iron Transfer. I did not see them in the bag so with 4 other samples it was a nice surprise.  I also have the pattern sheets.  Fun to find someone elses embroidery.

From the 1950's
Superior Company....Great embroidery transfers for kitchen towels and linens.

Two more packets of transfer patterns also from the 1950's by Vogart
You can always find Aunt Martha's Hot Transfer Patterns at garage sales.  These cute girls are similar to Sunbonnet Sue.
Next week I go to the Antique Tractor Show in Tulare California.  It is a great show!!!  More flea market tables.

I have a few of these patterns on sale at ebay (seller id papel1) but other Aunt Martha's hot iron transfer sheets are available on amazon.  Just click on the above link.

March
If you look closely you can see the icicles hanging from the carport.

April
Casper sitting among the buttercups

Flowing seasonal creek.
The wildflowers do not show up in photo.

Thinking Spring and maybe doing a few craft projects and pulling weeds.

I know I have shared this postcard before, but I think we are all enjoying spring and getting out in our gardens.  Maybe I had better start pulling those weeds.
