Off to sewing class

Every Thursday I go to the Senior Center for sewing class.  We use to have a teacher through the community college system but she moved.  We enjoyed each others company so much and could teach each other that we continue to meet weekly.  Some of us quilt, some just come and visit awhile, others sew clothes, purses and just about anything.  Today I am making tote bags that I learned from an online course provided by http://craftsy.com.  Be sure and check out the site for all kinds of classes.  I am not hauling my sewing machine but will cut the fabric pieces out and then sew them at home.

I find a lot of the vintage sewing books have great beginner directions.  I found this book the other day at a thrift store.  Well I had better get out of my recliner and get ready for class.

Cabinet Card from my Collection with link to a wonderful CC Blog.

This cabinet card is from the early 1900s and shows a cute boy and girl.  They both are wearing bow ties, his looks more like a satin bow, while her tie is lace and fabric.

She might have matching lace for the cuffs.  Both are wearing high top shoes.  I do not think he can get out of his jacket  quickly with those buttons.

I found a web page all about CABINET CARDS from photographers all around the United States and a few other countries.  There is one section on photographs from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

It is very informative and I suggest you check it out.

The back of some Cabinet Cards are as fancy as the front.  Great decorative style printing.

Coasters and Mug Rugs from Quilting Panel

I bought this panel last summer in Baker City Oregon.  I finally am doing something with it.  I actually bought 2 since they were half price.  I am starting a project in sewing class, cutting up the squares from the panel and making into coasters.  I do not always use these creations for that, sometimes I put them under a small potted plant or displace a figurine from the hutch.  As you can see from the lack of a picture I have not finished anything yet.  Well sewing class is tomorrow, maybe I will get it done.
Another panel I bought, idea was to make wrappings
for Christmas, I did make the gift tag at the top.  I also am thinking
of making some Fabric Christmas Postcards
