News from the Sierras

Actually there is very little new.  I finished radiation treatment about a month ago and things are looking good.  My husband and I managed to stay alert and drive 80 miles round trip week days for the treatment.  After being home awhile and rested we both have come down with colds  For two weeks we have blown our nose and hacked away with a cough but I think it is finally fading away.

The weather will get cold this Monday with hopefully lots of of rain, much needed in California.  I am getting a little more involved with my craft projects and am so glad to be back to week sewing group gatherings at the Senior Center.  I was given a pattern for Tissue Keeper and they turned out cute and I am making more for stocking stuffers.  Well I feel like cooking a friws egg and toast for breakfast.  Have a Happy Halloween.

Victorian Trade Cards use Generic Pictures in their advertisements

Maybe because printers only had certain pictures but I find many cute, adorable illustrations really have nothing to do with what the seller is advertising.  In this Trade Card a little girl stands by a large egg, carrying a parasol and watching 2 birds.  The company is selling Candy, Fruit and Confectionery.

Folded Trade Card Before and After Views of Buckinghams Dyed Whiskers

This is a great trade card novelty in style.  When the card is folded it shows this gentleman's beard which is very GRAY.  Unfold the Victorian Trade Card and now the gentleman's whiskers is dyed a nice brown.  Turn the card over and read all the details about R.P. Halls makers of this Buckingham's Dye for Whiskers.
