I am ready for Spring or even hot summer.  Might just go boating myself.  Or at least sit along the side of Hershey Lake.  And now I would go down the road and get some chocolate!

Edward Payson Weston - Professional Walker RPPC Postcard

This is the most famous walker in the late 1800's early 1900's..
The Father of Modern Pedestrianism EDWARD PAYSON WESTON
He walked for many years, many miles and in many countries.
His career was a professional walker, rarely slept more than 6 hours and would eat while walking.
In 1927 he was struck by a taxicab and severly injured and never walked again. He died two years later in 1929.

Thursday Thoughts

I am sitting here waiting for the storm to hit.  It originally was predicted that it would snow at 2500 feet.  We are a few feet below that but all we had was Hail...good thing as we had a new carpet installed in my craft, computer and ebay room.  Must get busy with listing on ebay as its 50 free listings for auctions.  My sales have been good and I have 4 groups of postcards and old covers to mail.  Better rush to the PO in case that storm comes in today.  I still have things to put back into that carpeted room. 

Well the wind is blowing outside.

Here is our old 11 year old Dodge Dakota that pulled our trailer for a year or so....after pulling a tent trailer for 5 years.  Not quite enough power so we decided to buy something new.

Here is our new Ford Diesel Truck 2011 with pulling package F250 4 X4

We love it despite the price of diesel.  It has already been on 3 shorter trips.

The oak trees are bare but should get new leaves soon.  We could pull a house!! but plan on keeping the 19 foot trailer. (RV Cruiser Funfinder X189)

These are square postcards, a set of four...of the colors of New England.  Just peel and mail.  Probably from the 1980's. 

I do manage to do crafts between working on my postcard collection.

I really had fun making this candle mat.  It is from a pattern sold by Bareroots. (I did vary the colors that were suggested on the patterrn due to what I had on hand.

I love working with felted wool.  The directions included dying wool for the variaged appearance of the trout.

Handmade Fabric and Collage Valentine's Day Postcards by Judy

I love making handmade cards, especially postcards.  The first pictured is a collage I made out of a vintage photo with Valentine Greetings and Sentiments printed on muslin and cut into strips.  Designs were glued down on background scrapbooking paper with added fancy red trim.

The second postcard is made of felted wool.  Here I finished it off with blanket stitch.  On the first collage postcard I printed a postcard template for the back to address for mailing.  The second card I backed with muslin and added a stamp box and words Post Card.  I have probably shared these cards before but its appropriate for Valentines Day.

Down Memory Lane - Highway Marker on Route 66 and killer cancellations

This wonderful marker is on Route 66 outside of Gallup New Mexico. 

A great colorful chrome postcard.

I wrote in previous post about killer markings (cancellations on stamps.)  Here is a sample of another style, Oval lines.  I believe the number in the inside refers to the post office location.

The killer cancellations here are parallel lines are vertical not horizontal as on other cancels.

Postal History Cover Early 1869 envelope PFF

A little  late in writing for postcard Friendship Friday. This is a cover which I found in my collection that has an unusual locomotive stamp. The killer target (what cancel is called on stamp) covers the image of the train.

Chrome Postcard MAIN STREET Ruidoso New Mexico

This looks like a pretty town to visit, Ruidoso New Mexico in the Southeastern part of the state.  I wonder if the Main Street View has changed much.  There are pine trees with a snowy mountain in the distance.  According to the postcard it is a year round resort.  Postcard is either from the 1950's or early 1960's.

Interesting killer marking on stamp.  Want to know more about postmarks?  I learned a lot from the book listed on Amazon about Postmarks on Postcards (the information is good for covers too.)  I bought the kindle edition and the illustrations are pretty good.  The actual book would be nice too.  There are chapters on identifying cancellations by machine or hand. The most interesting part was about killer bars or marks made on the stamps.Below is the link to Amazon for this book.

Pocalla Springs Tourist Court Postcard Sumter South Carolina

I like all the small boxes and different views on this postcard...here swimmers are enjoying the swimming pool which is supplied by Artesian wells and Springs .And the resort is famous for its drinking water.  Also available is camping spots in addition to the brick cabins.
It says there is ample grounds for House Cars or Tents.  I wonder if House Cars are the first RVs.    This postcard was mailed in 1936.

This is another motel postcard from the 1950s - RANCHO 101 MOTEL...on the coast highway in San Diego California. on Highway 101.
