Bathing or Swimming in the Great Salt Lake Utah

Floating like a cork!
These bathers look quite relaxed.  I would think the salt would be kind of itchy, and I notice they are wearing little shoes while floating, even reading the newspaper.  The lake is 75 miles long and 21 percent is salt.  It is so buoyant that they say you cannot sink.  Lots of activities were on the Great Salt Lake like a dance pavilion

Making Fabric Postcards w. Serger, Iron ons, Glue felted wool

Continuation of Handmade Postcards.....this one with fabric.  I really started this project to see how serged edges would look.  I was really pleased with the finished look.  A few months ago I had printed the postcard stamp box and lines on fabric so used that today with a backing of felted wool.  True the lines are a little crooked but I cant wait to make more!  The lines got a little runny due my ingenius idea to spray with sizing on the other side.  Well it went through.  I won't do that again.  I serged the two pieces together.

Then I grabbed my Aleenes Tacky Glue and added the tag, phrases and lace on the front.  I forgot to mention on the address side I ironed on the picture of the boy and girl holding flowers.  I purchased this from ebay seller Lakebears.  You can often write a message with a micron pen on this postcard.  This one needs to be firmer so I would mail it in an envelope.  You can put a layer of cardstock between the 2 pieces of fabric.

I have been using my serger a lot more than I use to.

Make your own Postcards!

Take some card stock, open up Paint program (or something similar) and create this postcard backing. The front is blank and is ready for your picture, special message or whatever! I like Paint as I can make a square for the stamp box and type in a pre message if I wish.
You can also print out on sticker paper then attach a photograph to the front. Use your imagination.

Vintage Almanacs Informative, Humorous, Collectible

I just love looking at the old almanacs published in the 1800's and early 1900's.  I was fortunate to acquire a large box of almanacs.  They certainly did not use archival paper, as they are brittle, torn etc.  But the articles, charts and advertisements are priceless.  Amusing, funny and great medicinal advice if you believe in the old cures. Tonics for cures, tonics for women and just about everything for every illness you have.

Postcard Magnets - and new blog

I am trying to cut back a little on the advertising on this page so have started another blog with just about the same name!  http://judyspostcardsplus.info/  I like listing links to Amazon.com and will use that site for more than here.  So If you go to this site you will find out how to make Postcard Magnets.  This blog is with godaddy.com and registered it as a domain.  Seems I never run out of things to do.  I admit I bounce around from blogs to ebay, twitter, facebook and other social networking.  I guess I had better go outside and smell the flowers (oh no its raining again.)

Souvenir Folder Boston Mass Postcard Friendship Friday.

Recipe for Boston Baked Beans
12 oz. (350 g) haricot beans

1 large onion
1 tablespoon oil
1 teaspoon dry mustard
2 teaspoons black treacle
1/4 pint (150 ml) tomato juice (or the liquid from a can of tomatoes)
2 tablespoons tomato puree
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1/2 pint (275 ml) unsalted stock
Soak, drain and rinse the beans, then cook them in fresh water
until they are almost tender, and drain them again.

Set the oven to 275 F (140 C), mark 1. Peel and slice the onion.
Heat the oil in a flameproof casserole and fry the onion for about
5 minutes, then add the rest of the ingredients and bring the
mixture up to the boil. Cover the casserole and put it into the
oven; cook for about 4 hours, stirring occasionally

I tried to find out the significance of Baked Beans from Boston. How it got its name. Could not find much so have included above a recipe for Baked Beans.  I wonder what treacle is?  Does not look a recipe I want to tackle!!

go to My Hearts are Crunchy to see more PFF....

Saucy Comic Postcards, Cute Babies cabinet cards

Pretty funny linen postcards.  Have the airbrushed art deco look.  Saucy postcards became popular in the 1930's.
This adorable baby is in his or her Christening gown.  I found another cabinet card  in this lot with the same chair, same fuzzy rug same photographer but different face and gown.

Boring Postcards

I am sure I have a few in my collection.
