Picture Postcards of the Golden Age A Collectors Guide by Holt

Even though this book was published for the British I own this book and use it quite often for reference. 214 pages, 32 pages of half-tone Illustrations, 8 pages of color. This is not a book with a lot of pictures it is instead full of collecting information for the collector. The authors aim is to give practical aid to the novice and new information for the more experienced collector.

The book includes lots of postal history from the very first postcard and for the next 50 to 100 years. If you want a book that takes time to read and read again this is a great book. It talks about post offices, royalty, ships, World War 1, artists and illustrators, postcard clubs and lots more all in great detail.

The section that I really use a lot is in the appendix. There is the usual information about how to date postcards etc, but I like the list of the early Publishers of postcards and what trademarks they used and if they had series postcards. Lets say you wanted to identify a card by Gale & Polden Ltd. The book illustrates the trademark used on the cards. If they don't have an illustration they often describe the publisher markings to look for.
This book was published and copyrighted in 1971.

If interested I have placed a link to Amazon.com where you can purchase this book.

Party Time

This postcard makes me think of all the Holiday Parties we are attending. Today I am taking a bowl of popcorn for a party at my Sewing Class. And I might do a little hand sewing, maybe quilt a table runner as a continuous project. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Mystery Men, Ladies from Alsace Postcard Friendship Friday

I purchased this postcard but have no idea who these men are. Can any of my PFF friends out there help me identify them? No information is given on the back.
These two ladies appear to have big hats and are from Alsace. Are these hats? Any significance about these Postcards. Again I need your help. The card on the right appears French, the one on the left maybe German. I do love these postcards.
Thanks again to PFF Host Marie at http://www.cpaphilblog.com/

An imaginary White Christmas

The theme for Decembers Festival of Postcards is White. I chose a 4 by 6 postcard I made for another blog last year and thought it was appropriate for this entry. When dreaming of a white Christmas I see leaping unicorns, tiny snowmen, snow covered branches with a white shiny moon. Of course there has to be snow on the ground and blue twinkly stars. I enjoyed making this collage style postcard. Check out this website and consider submitting a postcard. At the end of the month all entries will be shared at this website. http://acanadianfamily.com/a-festival-of-postcards/

We have a few inches of snow on the ground but I doubt it will be around for Christmas, but who knows it could snow again.
