Jefferson Barracks St. Louis Missouri 1908 Postcard Friendship Friday

Jefferson Barracks is located on the Mississippi River in Lemay Missouri south of St. Louis.  It was an active army installation from 1826-1946.  During the Civil War it served as a Military Hospital.  It was a major Military Post during the Mexican-American War.  In 1912 the first parachute jump happened at Jefferson Barracks.  It was a drafting center during WW2.  Now at this location there is a VA Hospital, 2 parks and a National Cemetary.

Because of Memorial Day I have added a stereoview of a Marine Drill on the Battleship Connecticut.
Beth  is sharing a lovely Memorial Day  Postcard at http://thebestheartsarecrunchy.blogspot.com/  She sponsors Postcard Friendship Friday.

Beijing Postcard Store, Exploring Chinese History, The Messenger CRI

Simon Gierce is the owner of the Beijing Postcard store in China. I found this article in the magazine The Messenger the official magazine of China Radio International. Gierce who came from Denmark loves exploring Chinese History. In his quaint shop, one can discover Chinese postcards on the wall. He loves to share the stories behind these postcards.

The article says that lots of foreigners who lived in China between the years 1890 and the 1940's took many photographs . These can be can found in Simons shop but also at flea markets and on the Internet. Simon shares a postcard (in the first picture) of a Chinese family and kids.

So if you are in the Nanluoguxiang area of Beijing here is a postcard store to visit.

Set of 12 Flying Kewpie Postcards Series of Ornaments Postcard Friendship Friday

Here is what you are suppose to do with these double image Kewpie Postcards, but I doubt if you will cut them!!!

To make the Flying Kewpies, first cut out both back and front views carefully. Just before you paste the back and front together, place the end of a string between the front and the back of the head. Put a slight weight on the Kewpie to keep him flat, and when he is dry you can hang him up by his string from the chandelier, and play he is flying. Hang the Flying Kewpie by their loops from the twigs of your Christmas tree

Happy PFF.   Thanks to Beth for sponsoring Postcard Friendship Friday

About Postcards - Embossed and Calendars

Embossed Postcards - A much used process where areas within the card are molded or raised. in order to highlight the design. This results with an indentation on the back of the postcard.

This embossed Birthday postcard is published by John Winsh in 1915

.

Calendar Add-Ons Postcard - Miniature Calendars are attached. If there is a hole punched at the top it usually means commercially assembled. This calendar postcard is for the year of 1913 The center of this postcard, the star is also embossed as seen on the back of the postcard. It was mailed in 1912

Making Pillows using Postcards Idea from Somerset Home 2006

Find transfer paper (Avery is a good brand) copy some of the designs of your old vintage postcards and iron on light fabric and make into a pillow.
I got the idea from the Premier Issue of Somerset Home.  I have not made a pillow from postcard pictures but have made cloth muslin baggies with transfer pictures of postcards.

National Post Card Week May 1 - 7, 2011 Vintage Postcard from 1984

This is the first day of this years National Post Card Week.  Artists and collectors design their own postcards and trade or sell them.  I was going to make a card and still might make one.  I am sharing a postcard that was published by the Kansas City Heart of America Post Card Collector's Inc for the year 1984.  You can find older postcards for this special event online, auction houses and at postcard shows.
On the back the club announces meeting times and their address.  I will be sharing several others as the week progresses. NATIONAL POST CARD WEEK IS USUALLY THE FIRST WEEK IN MAY
