Yosemite Firefall 1880 to 1968

An event happened each evening in Yosemite National Park for 88 years. The management of Camp Curry for its visitors established a gorgeous spectacular custom which continued until 1968. A huge bonfire was built on Glacier Point at 3300 feet directly above the camp. The burning embers were pushed from the point and over a cliff above the camp creating a cataract of fire and sparks making a sheer drop to the valley below.
These postcards are from the 1940's to 1954. I especially like the second postcard with half dome in the background. I always thought the fire was mixed in with a waterfall, but it seems the embers just shot over a ledge and didn't hit anything on its way down. I get to Yosemite often but never got to see this specactular event.

I won a Prize from Primtiques!

Look what I won. I guessed what the mystery picture was at Terri's blog, so check it out.
I should have taken a picture first of the beautifully wrapped prizes. I was overwhelmed with all the goodies. Terri knows I collect postcards so she sent me three, said she couldn't find enough so made me some in different shapes sizes, and then some blank ones so I could make my own. Also got a copy of Woman's World. She has more on her blog. And to top it off 3 soldered key chains. WOW Thanks so much for the prize.

Tag You're It - Color Challenge

This was a fun challenge sponsored by Tag, You're It...http://weekendtaggers.blogspot.com/
Every month they have a colour Challenge tag. This month the main colors are Red, Brown, and Cream. I managed to get a lot on this small tag of only 2 in by 4 in. For red I used red brads, tiny red roses and red gimp trim. For the Cream I used the tag itself with a cream/beige wooden disc for the face , the muslin strip with words printed out Just for you and the 5 petal flowers below the face. For brown I used brown curly doll hair, brown button and the ribbon tied to the tag. Check out the other tags at the above web address.

Old Hawaii Postcards

This map of Maui and Molokai is from the 1950's or early 1960's.
I use to teach a song about the Hukilau, The old Hawaiian way of fishing.
I think this postcard is the late 1960's. I love the hairdos. I think the ladies are taking pictures of their husbands who are boating in the lagoon at Coco Palms Resort, Lihue, Kauai.

Sunday Postcard Art - Birds

This weeks theme is Birds! http://sundaypostcardart.wordpress.com/
I first used wordle.com for the layout of the names of birds. These are the ones that visit our house. I washed the background with Delta acrylic paint, then sanded it for a more interesting surface. To finish it off I ironed on some appliques I found at a yard sale.

Wordle Tags with Postcard Cut Out

The tags I made by arranging words as a background, but I didn't plan the layout for the words I used http://wordle.net/ Give them a try. Its so much fun. Then I found a badly damaged postcard and cut out the embossed roses. Makes for an easy project.

Rack Postcards

Rack Cards are usually advertisements displayed in Postcard racks at different stores. I found these free about 8 or 9 years at a Gourmet Grocery/Liquor store. The Lee Overall postcard is published by the same postcard co as the bubbly one...Nationwide Postcard Advertising and has the Tower Records Logo. They measure 4 1/4 in by 6 in.
