Health Report, Shopping trips and Advertising Trade Cards

Just a brief note as I have been taking a break from my blog  This has been due to a continuation of health problems.  I mentioned in my blog a few months ago that I was being treated for Breast Cancer.  I am happy to report that I see the light at the end of the tunnel as I only have about 17 Radiation treatments.  It has been quite a challenge driving 80 miles round trip 5 days a week but the appointments are short so we get home quickly.

We do have errands and take advantage of being in a bigger town.  We hit Costco weekly along with shopping for groceries at Raleys.  I think this week a visit to Hobby Lobby just might be fun.  I have not been embroidering very much with these daily (M-F) drives but have been working on eBay.  I am still buying Advertising Trade Cards and selling some on eBay.  The weather is also cooling down and I feel Fall is in the air.  I will share one of the Trade Cards I like.

Old Vintage Victorian Scrapbook Life in the 1880s Reward of Merit Children

I have been busy working on Antique Scrapbooks, removing some trade cards, keeping others on album pages.  I am expecting another album in the mail and some individual cards I ordered.  It is so much fun to look at all the pictures, some with advertising.

Two Frogs Calendar Trade Card

This trade card is titled Two Frogs...I kept looking for the second frog but decided it was the young boy in a frog like crouch.  Two frogs eye to eye.

Muzzy's Corn Starch Trade Card with cake and pudding recipes

Muzzy's Corn Starch - Muzzy Starch CO Elkhart, Indiana
FRENCH CAKE
2 cups of sugar, half a cup of butter, two of flour, one-half cup of Muzzy's Corn Starch, half a cup of milk, three eggs, one teaspoon of cream tartar, one of soda. (No baking directions given)

CORN STARCH PUDDING
One quart of milk, except enough to wet three tablespoons of Muzzy's Corn starch, placed in a tin pail set in a kettle of boiling water: add the yolks of the three eggs beaten, half a cup of sugar, the corn starch and a little salt.  let it boil until it thickens: when cool pour into a pudding dish, beat the whites of the eggs, half a cup of pulverized sugar, flavor with lemon, and place in the over to brown.

If you collect trade cards which are small forms of advertising you can get some interesting recipes.  Potatoes are featured in a basket with young girl.  ARBUCKLE'S  Ariosa Coffee promotes coffee.  This trade card is one of a Series of 50 different subjects on Cooking.

Potato Croquettes

Mix 4 ounces of grated Westphalia or other Ham with with one pound of mealy potatoes mashed with butter, salt and two eggs, form them into small loaves and fry them in butter: Serve them hot with brown gravy.
